Hi, I’m Gerri Abelson, a NYS Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and Assistant, with 35+ years supporting trauma healing with additional training and certification in EMDR, spiritual direction and Reiki.

I specialize in PTSD, Developmental Trauma, supporting sobriety through nervous system regulation and complex health conditions influenced by trauma and chronic stress.

Welcome

Experiences that overwhelm the system—whether recent or long past—can leave you feeling anxious, disconnected, or not quite like yourself.

Over time, these experiences can also shape how you see yourself, others, and the world—impacting your sense of safety, trust, and belonging.

Trauma is not just something we think about—it lives in the body, influencing patterns of response, perception, and belief. Therapy can be a place to slow down, reconnect, and begin to restore a sense of safety within yourself.

Through somatic experiencing and an integrative, whole-person approach, we work with the body and mind to support resilience, regulation, and a renewed sense of connection.

HOW I WORK

My approach is trauma-informed, collaborative, and deeply attuned to your individual experience.

I integrate somatic experiencing with a compassionate, holistic perspective that recognizes how trauma can shape not only the body, but also your internal narratives, expectations, and sense of self.

Sessions are guided with care, choice, and respect for your boundaries.

Together, we focus on:

  • Building safety and nervous system regulation

  • Expanding your capacity to stay present with your experience

  • Gently processing stored stress and trauma

  • Supporting shifts in how you relate to yourself and the world

  • Reconnecting with a sense of stability and self-trust

WHAT IS SOMATIC EXPERIENCING?

Somatic experiencing is a gentle, body-centered approach designed to support the resolution of stress and trauma held in the nervous system.

Rather than reliving or retelling overwhelming experiences, this work helps you safely reconnect with your body’s sensations and responses—allowing your system to gradually process and release what has been held.

As your nervous system begins to settle, long-held patterns can begin to shift—including the ways you relate to yourself and interpret the world around you.

You may begin to experience:

  • A greater sense of safety and grounding

  • Reduced anxiety and reactivity

  • More ease in your body and daily life

  • A softer, more compassionate relationship with yourself

This work honors your pace and your body’s natural capacity to heal.
